This interdisciplinary course addresses the environmental and societal impacts of the climate crisis by taking an up-to-date look around the world at the latest regional climate change issues. Students will participate in an in-depth analysis of not only the causes, impacts, and vulnerabilities caused by climate change, but also the solutions and reasons for evidence-based hope. With a sharp focus on the relationship between socio-economic and natural systems, topics will include biodiversity, extreme weather, energy, water security, crops & food supply, sea level rise, health risks, population displacement and new technologies. Additional topics include global greenhouse gas emission pathways, the global response to the threat of climate change, as well as the interplay between science, media, and public policy.
Prerequisite: Completion of 30 credits (any discipline) or permission of instructor.
